Seeks Information on Purchasing Earthmoving Equipment

Monrovia, Liberia – The Minister of State Sylvester Gribgsby, the Minister of Defense Geraldine George, the Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility, and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), Brigadier General Davidson Fayiah Forleh, have all been unanimously called before the House of Representatives Plenary to provide information regarding the purchase, Bill of Lading, and parking of pieces of earth moving equipment that the government has purchased and brought into the nation.
Rep. Gizzie K. Kolliance of Lofa County District #4 sent a communication that prompted the Plenary decision, according to a statement released by the House Press Bureau.
The lawmaker asked his colleagues for permission to invite the officials to respond to questions and offer specific details on the procurement procedure in his correspondence.
He believes that the issue of development, particularly in the area of roads, is crucial to the nation’s progress but that the required procedures should be followed within the bounds of the law.
“Government must always take due cognizance of the established laws and processes appertaining thereto. The Liberian government has three coordinate branches of government, each with a distinct role granted by the constitution.”
The lawmaker from Lofa County claimed that in order to prevent any branch from unlawfully assuming the authority, functions, or obligations, the constitution must be upheld.
He said that the entire legislature should work to protect the constitutional order and prevent any branch from unlawfully taking over the obligations, powers, or tasks of the other.
After the reading and discussion, the body decided to ask the Ministers and the Chief of Staff to testify before the House on Thursday, July 11, 2024, to give more specific information about the purchase of the earth moving machinery.
