BECOME LATEST VICTIM TO FIRE DISASTER AMID INCREASING WAVE OF FIRE OUTBRAKE ACCROSS LIBERIA.
Monrovia, Liberia – In a growing number of fire events occurring around Liberia, House Speaker of the 55th Legislature J. Fonati Koffa is the most recent victim of a fire.
Speaker Koffa’s house in the Rehab Community caught fire late Sunday night, April 14, 2024, sparking public reactions.
It is reported that there was no casualties. According to eyewitnesses, Speaker Koffa and his spouse fled their residence as the fire grew more intense, seeking safety at the residence of former President George Weah.
The arrival of the Liberia National Fire Service officials was not enough to bring down the two-story building in the Rehab neighborhood. The Fire Service is yet to provide details of the fire outbreak.
This tragic circumstance comes after another fire outbreak in the heavily populated Township of West Point that burned six homes. In addition to a recent violent storm, numerous residents have been forced to flee their homes due to fire catastrophes since the year 2024 began.
According to National Fire Service officials, there have been more than ten fire outbreaks in Monsterrado County between January and April of 2024.
On February 8, 2024, Senator Saah Joseph of Montserrado County almost lost his life to fire that destroyed his Congo Town residence. He was left stranded when the fire spread throughout the house, along with the other residents. It required the help of his neighbors to break in and rescue him and his family out of the flame.
The media, civil society participants, activists, and members of the religious community have all taken notice of the nation’s fire outbreak and have called on President Joseph Boakai and the Unity Party-led administration to step in.
