Monrovia, Liberia – Representative Austin B. Taylor, the representative for Maryland County district #3 and the chair of the House’s committee on maritime affairs, has traveled to Rabat, Morocco, as part of a delegation from Liberia to attend a legislative conference of the Member States of the Atlantic African States Process (AASP).

In order to turn the region into a hub for human synergy, economic growth, and international impact, this gathering aims to establish a solid and constructive relationship among Atlantic African States.

Additionally, the meeting gives parliamentary leaders a chance to exchange ideas on how to manage common resources sustainably, draw in strategic investments, and bolster maritime security all of which are critical to Africa’s future.

Speaking to reporters after the first day of discussions was adjourned, Representative Taylor stressed the need of using the Atlantic Ocean and its maritime resources to the continent of Africa’s advantage.

He also emphasized the importance of shaping the Atlantic front, using the blue economy to boost economic growth and prosperity, increasing intra-African trade relations through maritime connectivity among African nations, and adopting a participatory approach among the African Atlantic coast and others.

The AASP framework highlights the potential of Atlantic Africa, which consists of 23 nations and accounts for over half of intra-African commerce. These countries make up around 46% of the continent’s population and provide 55% of Africa GDP.

During their time in Morocco, the team is anticipated to meet with speakers from various parliaments, the Liberian Embassy personnel, and Majesty King Mohammed VI. Alongside the parliamentary engagement, the legislative delegation from Liberia will also ask member states to support Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council.
