Monrovia-LISCR FC and SC Gagnoa settled to a zero-all draw in the first leg of the preliminary qualifiers of the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup. The match took place on Sunday, September 11 at the SKD Stadium in Paynesville, meanwhile, the return leg is set for this weekend in Ivory Coast.

The Liberian side needs a 1-1 away draw to qualify on an away goal rule while the Ivorian side will be hoping for a win to qualify for the next stage.

The first leg was an open game for both teams, they all created several scoring opportunities in both halves, but they failed to utilize their chances.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s other representative in the CAF Champions League, Watanga FC were beaten 3-0 by Rivers United FC of Nigeria.

Three goals in the first 45 minutes gave a rampant Nigerian side a decent victory over the Liberian champions at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday afternoon.

Rivers United opened the scoring through Kenechukwu Agu’s fantastic shot outside the 18-yard box and a cool finish from Ebube Duru in the first ten minutes follow by Paul Acquah’s header ensured all three points for the home side.

Watanga FC had an opportunity in the second half, but it was too late to make a comeback. They will be hoping for a 4-0 win in the second leg at the SKD Sports Complex this weekend to progress to the next phase of the qualifiers.
