Promises Undergraduate Scholarships for Margibi District #5 Youths.
Monrovia, Liberia – Manoj Bihari Verma, the Indian ambassador to Liberia, has declared that the Indian government will look into ways to offer undergraduate scholarships to the residents of Margibi County District #5 in the upcoming months. The ambassador made this announcement in direct response to a request made by local chiefs during his weekend tour of the Salala Rubber Corporation (SRC) and Jeety Rubber Factory, which was intended to evaluate the socioeconomic impact of the two companies on host communities and beyond.
The businesses, which are owned by Indian business entrepreneur Upjit Singh Sachdeva, have received high appreciation from locals, government representatives, and visiting diplomats for generating jobs and funding important community initiatives. Additionally, the Sachdeva management team has made rapid progress in remodeling hospitals and schools, as well as building new residences for corporate employees, since assuming control of SRC in November of last year.
Township leaders and district commissioners of Margibi District #5 made a plea to the Indian ambassador on behalf of their people, highlighting the need of providing young ones with scholarships as a means of promoting future economic growth.
“We are serious about our request to help our children with scholarships, Honorable Ambassador, we say this with all of our hearts, please help our children. Liberia as a whole and District #5 in particular will benefit greatly from further education opportunity, the leaders said as a group.
Their opinion is that expanding access to higher education would improve their communities’ human potential, which will ultimately result in more robust economic growth in the area.
The appeal was recognized by Amb. Verma, who emphasized that India is still dedicated to helping Liberia by improving healthcare, education, and youth empowerment.
“We want to share our expertise and knowledge with our friendly countries, and Liberia is our partner in that context. India is already providing significant scholarship support to the Government of Liberia, particularly in capacity building,” said Ambassador Verma.
He reassured the Margibi residents that plans would be made to offer undergraduate scholarships through Salala Rubber Corporation and Jeety Rubber Factory, stressing that the selection procedure would be merit-based. “A long-standing cooperation encompassing commerce, agricultural, and cultural exchanges exists between Liberia and India.”
Both countries stand to gain from the prospect of fresh scholarships: India fortifies its diplomatic and economic relations with a significant West African partner, while Liberia receives a workforce that is better educated.
Ambassador Verm conveyed his appreciation for the socioeconomic development he saw at SRC and Jeety Rubber Factory, emphasizing their contributions to employment, infrastructure, and host communities’ standard of living. In order to promote Liberia’s larger economic objective, he underlined that deeper bilateral connections between India and Liberia will attract more investment from Indian companies.
“India and Liberia share a long-standing relationship, and we are here to support initiatives that empower local communities. The amount of work our former Consul General put into helping the Liberian people has amazed me. We will continue to collaborate with him to make sure that some of your young people receive scholarships to India, return, and aid in the advancement of Liberia,” Ambassador Verma said.
Amb. Verma expressed thanks, saying, “I want to thank the Government of Liberia and the people of Margibi for providing an enabling environment for my compatriots and others to invest.”
As Upjit Singh Sachdeva (Jeety) intends to increase the manufacturing of tires and gloves at the Jeety Rubber business, Amb. Verma said he hopes the entrepreneur’s idea would come to fruition to ensure the local populace benefit from improved incentives and social services.
Mr. Sachdeva states that he wants to continue to uphold a model of corporate social responsibility that benefits the long-term welfare of the people who reside in the neighborhoods around his companies.
All 12th students at the SRC school have been informed that they would be eligible for university scholarships in India if they receive an A+ in the WASSCE. “We will pay for their education at any Liberian university if they receive an A,” Mr. Sachdeva said.
He went on to say, “Education is the foundation of any community’s future, and we want to ensure that the children of Margibi have access to quality education and good healthcare facilities,” highlighting the significance of welfare and education in community development.
The SRC under his leadership would finish renovating and upgrading all of the workers’ housing quarters and adding more social amenities in 24 months, Mr. Sachdeva claims.
