AS FOREIGN MINISTRY IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE TRANSLATORS
Monrovia – Liberia Foreign Ministry Dee Maxwell Kemayah has failed to produce the two foreign interpreters as requested by Criminal Court ‘C’ Judge Blamo Dixon in order to fast-track the ongoing 100 million United States Dollars drugs case in Criminal Court ‘C’ at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.
The Ministry claims that the two nations Guinea Bissau and Portugal for which the court is asking for interpreters do not have embassies in the nation and cannot, therefore, provide interpreters for the two nations.
As was previously mentioned, on February 14, 2023, the defense team asked the court to hire interpreters to translate from Portuguese and Arabic into English as well as the other way around. On the other hand, the Prosecution also requested the court for jury sequestration. The two requests made by the prosecution and defense counsel were granted by Judge Dixon.
Due to the Foreign Ministry’s failure to present the two translators who will aid in the expedited processing of the ongoing hundred million (100m) narcotics case at the Temple of Justice, yesterday’s hearing was again postponed.
The Foreign Ministry, through its deputy minister, contacted the court, pleading with the judge to persuade Dee Maxwell Saah Kemayah to send a diplomatic note to the US embassy, asking it to send two interpreters to the court to translate from Portuguese to Arabic to English and vice versa.
The case will now be heard on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 10:30 AM, according to the judge.
