After months of rumors about who would succeed James Butler, whose contract was set to end in 2022, the Liberia Football Association has officially announced Coach Ansumana Keita as the head coach of the Liberia Lone Star on a two-year deal.

The unveiling event took place at the ATS in Monrovia on January 25, 2023. Prior to that, Keita was the head coach of Liberia’s under-15 and under-17 men’s national teams. He also served as interim coach in 2022 during the CHAN Nations Cup qualifications at the SKD when Senegal defeated Liberia 3-0 but managed a 2-1 away victory.

The national team’s qualification for the 2023 Nations Cup in Ivory Coast and the 2025 Nations Cup has been awarded to the tactician.

Liberia, meanwhile, was defeated by Morocco in her opening Group C match in the 2023 Nations Cup qualifiers. The SKD was previously banned from hosting international matches because it did not meet the minimum standards for a modern stadium; however, following extensive renovation, the stadium is now permitted to host international matches.

As a result, the Lone Star played at home in their North African region. Following Zimbabwe’s exclusion, Group C now consists of three nations: Liberia, South Africa, and Morocco. As with all other groups, two teams will advance from this one to the final four nations for the match in Ivory Coast. The next game for Liberia will be on the road in March against South Africa. However, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee.

The CAF Executive Committee’s pledge to allow the African countries that have qualified for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in November/December 2022 to sufficiently prepare made this necessary. As a result, the Cote d’Ivoire match day three and match day four qualifiers for the September 2022 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed to 20-28 March 2023. The new dates for match days five and six are 12-20 June 2023 and 4-12 September 2023, respectively.
