Monrovia, Liberia – Together with other partners, the Multi-Actors Platform on Land Governance and Responsible Agricultural Investment in Liberia (MAP Liberia Land Platform) held a validation session for the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Act that lasted for a day.
Through the Ministry of Justice Technical Working Group on the ADR Act, the Liberian government organized the workshop in collaboration with both domestic and foreign development partners.
The Act offers a single legal framework for the fair, effective, and economical settlement of business and non-commercial disputes via the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes, according to a news release issued on October 31, 2024.
With an emphasis on arbitration, mediation, conciliation, and negotiation, the legislation also makes it easier to resolve disputes in a fair, effective, and economical manner.
It adopts and incorporated the provisions of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration 1985 with amendments adopted in 2006, Chapter 7(7), Commercial Arbitration of the Liberian Commercial Code, Title 7(7) of the Liberian Code of Law Revised, and Article 64-Arbitration, Title (1) Civil Procedure Law, Liberian Code of Law Revised Volume.
