Paynesville, Montserrado – Many basketball fans have begun celebrating the conclusion of the Liberia Basketball Association’s four-year internal struggle with the election and subsequent induction of elected leaders. On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at an elective congress overseen by a FIBA agent, stakeholders in the Liberia Basketball Association chose a new class of officials.

Mr. Rufus Anderson expressed grave concerns after the Congress, stating that the election was not transparent, fair, or free. Nevertheless, Mr. Anderson pushed that more than 50 votes be counted for each position that was contested, even though there were only 49 voters.

For the presidential position, Abraham Samukar won Jacob Kabakole by 26–25 votes from 49 voters. For Vice President of Administration, Yanqueh Borsay defeated Calvin Diggs by 30-23 votes, while Bruce Quaye won Edwin Fahnbulleh by 31-21 votes for Vice President of Operations. For Treasure, Malcom Joseph got a better score than Parker Barcolleh by 19-31 votes. For his part, Specket Neufville won unopposed as Chaiplain.

Despite Rufus Anderson’s concerns, the election commission chairperson, Darlington Cheeks, has yet to comment on the issue after being engaged. At the induction ceremony over the weekend, Deputy Sports Minister G. Andy Quamie stated that the elections had been the subject of complaints from both former president Rufus Anderson and unsuccessful presidential candidate Jake Kabakole.
