Monrovia, Liberia – Agents from the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) reportedly raided suspected drug sellers on Thursday morning at around 4:30 AM in the area of Small-Town Community, which is home to the CDC headquarters. Eye witnesses stated that the drug dealers dashed into the party headquarters, setting off a chase by the LDEA.
According to a Frontpage account; CDC Secretary General Jefferson Koijee took to Facebook as early as 6 AM, stating, “Heavily armed state security forces have invaded our party’s headquarters for the second time this morning, engaging in sporadic shootings that caused panic and chaos among citizens and partisans in and around the party’s headquarters.”
He added, “We’re calling the immediate attention of ECOWAS, AU, the international community, the Liberian people, and CDCIANS in particular to this unscrupulous action by the Boakai administration, which is aimed at disrupting our hard-earned peace.”
The nation’s peace is far bigger than President Boakai and what he refers to as a group of political outlaws, Koijee said, accusing the administration of further damaging it. When a police vehicle pulled into the CDC property late last night, the policemen started shooting and searching the area. There are partisans whose whereabouts are unknown. Such provocation is regrettable and has to be addressed right now Koijee called on the Boakai government.
Footages from the scenes show party supporters being forcefully detained by riot police. A particularly disturbing video shows police dragging a supporter from within the party’s headquarters amidst thick clouds of tear gas.
The situation sparked cidicians to gather in their numbers by 7:00 AM local time to defend themselves and the party headquarter. the gathering of CDC partisans’ spark the government attention. With in less time, the CDC party headquarters was heavily faced with the Liberia National Police officers ready to counter any action from cidicians.
The huge presence of the LNP in front of the CDC headquarters sparked singing and chanting from partisans with in no time, a serious confrontation between cidicians and officers of LNP erupted. The action saw stone throwing from both the civilians and members of the LNP including tear gas.
The action between the state run by President Boakai and the CDC caused serious economic loss to many business as well as hinders those who worked in both the public and private sectors. the action also caused the pause of both human and moving objects movement on the Tubman Boulevard main road.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Fonati Koffa and a powerful CDC official stopped by the scene on their way to work in an attempt to diffuse the situation. But he was unable to persuade CDC partisans to stop throwing stones or to stop the police from firing tear gas, his attempts to defuse the situation between the police and citizens were unsuccessful. Amidst the ongoing altercation, Speaker Koffa returned to his vehicle and departed.
It took the intervention of the party’s Secretary General Jefferson Koijee, Former Montserrado County District Eight Representative Moses Acarus Gray, District Nine Representative Frank Saah Foko, and high ranking officials of the party to calm the situation late Thursday afternoon, August 22, 2024.
