Monrovia, Liberia – In order to effect change in the ongoing struggle for justice and equality, the African Women Leaders Network-Liberia Chapter (AWLN-Liberia Chapter) calls on all Liberians, national leaders, and the security apparatus to demonstrate peaceful conduct and respect for the Rule of Law.
According to AWLN-Liberia, the demonstration will continue to receive a lot of attention on a national and international scale if Liberians act in a way that upholds peace and encourages communication for the change they desire to as a nation and people.
According to the AWLN-Liberia Chapter, nonviolent gatherings and discussions ought to take the place of the previous violent episodes, which included stoning police officers and damaging cars. The added that Liberians need to understand that using violence will not only compromises the peaceful environment Liberia seeks to foster, but also jeopardizes the purpose for development.
The events of August 22, 2024, in the view of the group, are in opposition to the non-violence, respect for one another, and inclusivity that are the cornerstones of fundamental rights and the Rule of Law. AWLN Liberia invites all protestors, leaders of the country, security aparartus and patriotic citizens to reaffirm their shared commitment to nonviolent protest and constructive discourse.
AWLN-Liberia highlighted that having a government and an opposition that may differ but cooperate for the benefit of the nation’s citizens is fundamental to democracy.
It stated that in order to maintain peace and ensure that people in Liberia respect one another’s rights, Liberians must step up their efforts.
