Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia National Wheel Chair Basketball Federation has revokes Ms. Mamie Free Goodwill Ambassadorial post citing misrepresentation; but she rejects every wrong doing, days after hosting a successful pre-tournament, the Liberia National Wheel Chair Basketball Federation has with immediate effect revoked the status of Madam Mamie Free as Goodwill Ambassador of the federation.
A communiqué dated February 21, 2024, with the signature of its Secretary General Klennious Blamo, states that Madam Free’s membership in the federation has likewise been canceled. The release goes on to say that although Madam Free was appointed by the Federation’s Board of Directors to uphold the institution’s positive reputation abroad by exhibiting a high level of professionalism, accountability, and transparency, she has essentially turned into a self-serving endeavor.
The release added, “The Liberia National Wheelchair Basketball Federation has come to the realization that Ms. Free’s endeavors and interactions with diaspora sponsors have not served the best interest of the federation, but rather that she has diverted all donations for her personal use and selfish desire in the name of the federation.”
The Liberia National Wheel Chair Basketball Federation (LNWBF) released a statement stating that due to Ms. Mamie Free’s unprofessional and self-centered actions, the organization’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee voted in a mass meeting on Monday, February 20, 2024, to revoke her Goodwill Ambassador status and to end all associations and affiliations with her.
On February 20, 2024, Ms. Free received a letter of withdrawal of status and termination of affiliation, together with a five-count resolution signed by LNWBF executives, from Mrs. Florence Mamusu Thornes, the chairperson of the board of directors.
However, in response to the information, Madam Free stated that she was already about to step down from her post because of a number of irregularities and what she claimed were threats against her life made by the wife of Ambassador Lionel Johnson, the President of the Liberia National Wheel Chair Basketball Federation.
Ms. Free stated that the President of the LNWBF’s wife had threatened her via voicemail if she went to the media to discuss her husband’s problems with the federation.
