The Liberia Amputee National Team defeated France 1-0 in their final match of the 2022 Amputees World Cup in Turkey to finish the tournament as 17th best nation. Their final match was played on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at the Ravia Stadium in Instanbul. The Red, White, and Blue took an early lead in the first half through an own goal which was the only goal of the match.

Liberia ended the tournament with two defeats and four wins, but they dropped from the zonal stages after losing 4-1 in their opening match against Haiti followed by a 5-0 defeat to hosts Turkey in game two.

However, the three times African Champions came strong in the last group match against France with a 4-0 win to finish 3rd place in the group with one win and two defeats.

Following the climax of the zonal stages of the tournament, Liberia was dropped to the losing category to determine the best-rank countries outside of the last 16 nations that qualified for the knockout stage. As a result, Liberia produced four straight wins over Spain, Ireland, and France.

They defeated Spain 2-1, Ireland 6-3, and France 4- 0 and 1-0 respectively.

Turkish-based players, Matthew Joe and Morilai Boakai were the best-performing players for Liberia. They managed 12 goals between them, but Morilai Boakai took most of the credit by scoring eight goals to become one of the highest-scoring players in the entire tournament.

Matthew Joe’s performance in the World Cup earned him a contract renewal with Barcilar Amputees Football Club. At the same time, Darlington Sebeh of Mighty Conquerors, a former winner of the Liberia Amputees professional league also signed for Barcilar Amputees Football club on a one-year deal.

Meanwhile, Turkey defeated former Angola 4-1 in the grand final to be crowned champion of the 2022 Amputees World Cup on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
