AFTER THREE WEEKS CHINESE GOV’T SPONSER TRAINING

Monrovia, Liberia – Through its embassy in Monrovia and with assistance from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the People’s Republic of China culminated a three-week seminar for senior scholars and members of the Liberian media in Beijing.

Media executives, reporters, and senior scholars from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the training that got underway on August 15, 2023.

The training included lessons on media literacy in the information age, media literacy and e-government in the information age, new literacy in the internet age and how to combat fake news, constructive journalism for development communication, and broadcasting in the 5G era, among other important subjects.

Liu Linhai, vice president of the National Radio and Television Administration’s Research and Training Institute, asked participants during the closing ceremony to use their reporting to further the interests of both nations.

He noted that all participants took the seminar seriously through their experience sharing and brief video presentations, saying that because this group of professionals had carried out their tasks well, this would open the door for future programs for more Liberians.

Liu Linhai stated that President Xi met with President Sirleaf in 2015 and emphasized that China strongly values the bilateral relationship with Liberia in ensuring that every sector of civil society remains aware.

“You have seen China with your own eyes during this brief but rewarding voyage, and doubtless with your own opinions. Please recollect what you have seen and experienced with your pen, keyboard, and voice. Show them, in particular, on your social media and other platforms. We hope that more Liberians will have the chance to visit China, either on their own or through the media. Over the past three weeks, your enthusiastic participation has deeply inspired us; your passion is evident in every presentation and lecture.”

The participants thanked the People’s Republic of China for the support, promised to work in the interest of both countries.
