The Liberian Senate has expressed concern over recent U.S sanctions placed on two members of the senate, for alleged corruption. Recently, the United States, through the Global Magnitsky Act, placed a sanction on Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson for corruption while Grand Cape mount Senator Varney Sherman suffered similar sanctions from the US.

Addressing reporters on Thursday, December 23, 2021,  in Monrovia, senate Pro-Temp Albert Chie said, though the two senators are actively performing their duties, the senate is also concerned about these actions against two of its colleagues.

According to him, the Senate was already finding a redress to the initial sanction placed on Senator Sherman when another was placed on Senator Johnson of Nimba County. Pro-Temp Chie however stated that the Senate will remain engaged with the US Government as a traditional partner to Liberia, in resolving the matter.
