Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberty Party has named Representative Rugie Y. Barry of Montserrado County District #1 as the acting chairman of the party, effective one day after Chairman Musa Bility tendered his resignation. The vice chairman for administration and primary deputy to the national chairman takes over, according to a news release issued by Party Secretary General (SG) Martin Kollah on Wednesday, September 25, 2025, stating that the appointment is in accordance with party constitution.
He noted that as a result of Representative Barry’s automatic election to the role of national chairperson of the party, the party has started a national reconciliation process, which is now being carried out by a Joint Reconciliation Committee (JRC) that was established by the previous leaders of the chairman Repersentative Musa Hassan Bility and Political Leader/Pro-Temp Nyonblee K. Lawrence. Phase one of the JRC’s work, which consists of signing a resolution to direct the LP countrywide reconciliation process, is almost complete.
“To conclude the reconciliation process and take the party to a special national convention as being proposed by the Joint Reconciliation Committee, the Liberty Party wishes to reassure all partisans/supporters and well-wishers that LP will continue to work through the JRC, which is chaired by Hon. Rugie Yartu Barry.”
He said, in keeping the dreams and ambitions of the party alive, the National Secretariat would keep partisans and the general public informed about the continuous development of the reconciliation process.
It is recorded that on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, Representative Musa H. Bility withdrew his membership from the Liberty Party (LP) and resigned as its chairman.
He claimed that leading the LP National Executive Committee (NEC) for the past three and a half years has been an incredibly rewarding, intricate, and difficult experience of his political career. “I consider myself fortunate to have been a member of an organization dedicated to creating a political structure based on the values of democratic governance, inclusive decision-making, and the rule of law.”
