Monrovia, Liberia – The Peter Sayklon Orphanage in Bong Mine, Margibi County, received a kind contribution of food and non-food items from the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) to formally kick off Taxpayers Appreciation Week.
Nearly 100 children, many of them are orphaned or from single-parent families, are cared for by the orphanage, which has been proven to be in a deplorable position.
As women and children are frequently the most affected by poverty and a lack of resources, this contribution is a part of the LRA’s corporate social responsibility initiatives to help these communities.
Several bags of 25 kg rice, beds, sanitary pads, clothing, footwear, slippers, detergents, and other necessary hygienic supplies were among the given goods.
The contribution was presented on behalf of Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah on Wednesday by Gabriel Montgomery, the LRA Deputy Commissioner General for Technical Services.
Montgomery underlined that the LRA’s continued dedication to supporting vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, and giving back to impoverished Liberians is reflected in this gesture.
“This donation is a direct way of channeling taxpayers’ resources back into the hands of those who need them most, particularly women and children who are often the most vulnerable,” Deputy Commissioner Montgomery stated. “LRA is proud of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, which aims to empower underprivileged communities and improve the lives of those who are often forgotten by society.”
He also gave the managers of the orphanage high marks for their unceasing efforts to nurture and care for Liberia’s future generation.
“What you are doing here is really valuable. It’s encouraging to witness the love and care you provide the kids at this orphanage, who are our nation’s future,” Montgomery continued.
The head of the orphanage, Madam Martha Sayklon, responded to the contribution by expressing her sincere appreciation. She expressed her gratitude to the LRA for their prompt and significant assistance while crying. She acknowledged the substantial good impact the donation will have on the lives of the children, particularly the girls, who will now have access to essential sanitary supplies, and characterized the gift as “selfless and a true demonstration of love for humanity at the highest level.”
The theme for this year’s Taxpayers Appreciation Week is “Moving to Billions, Celebrating Taxpayers Impact.”
The first-ever National Student Tax Day will be held by the LRA on Thursday, and on Friday, more than 100 taxpayers will be acknowledged at the Taxpayers Appreciation and Awards Ceremony.
The week will conclude with an all-day sports festival on Saturday at the Invincible Park in Monrovia.
