To Hit US$1 Billion In Revenue Collection
Monrovia, Liberia – In order to raise domestic funds for significant national development projects, LRA Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah reaffirmed on Thursday that cutting waste in government processes and tackling income leakages are crucial first steps.
Commissioner General Jallah stressed that obtaining revenue collection of $1 billion milestone is achievable by taking thoughtful, practical steps to address policy flaws that currently permit excessive waivers and revenue losses.
He said this at a national dialogue hosted in Monrovia by the USAID Local Empowerment for Accountability and Decentralization (LEAD) forum. The forum serves as a platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing domestic revenue mobilization while ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
With decentralization initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery across the country, the USAID-LEAD project is committed to supporting Liberia’s efforts to increase domestic revenue mobilization, promote transparency, and empower local communities.
CG Jallah emphasized the critical role that the USAID-LEAD project played in supporting Liberia’s income base and enabling long-term, sustainable economic growth and development.
The five-year LEAD project’s strategic goal is to help the Liberian government generate revenue in an open and responsible manner, as US Charge d’ Affairs Catherine Rodriguez emphasized in her speech at the event.
As the country works to meet its lofty one-billion-dollar income objective, Madam Rodriguez underlined again how crucial it is to hold people accountable for wasting and unlawfully squandering government resources.
The U.S. Representative assured the gathering that the U.S. is still dedicated to collaborating with partners to reduce waste, improve transparency, and boost revenue mobilization in order to promote prosperity and sustainable development for all Liberians.
