Monrovia, Liberia – With funding from the International Development Association (IDA) and the Government of Sweden through the Public Financial Management Reform and Institutional Strengthening Project (PFMRISP), the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) is thrilled to announce the delivery of 50 Starlink satellite terminals, marking a significant milestone in its journey toward digital transformation.
With an estimated worth of US$162,000 (149,400 euros), this equipment represents a major advancement in improving internet access for Tax Business Offices (TBOs) and Customs Business Offices (CBOs) throughout Liberia, including remote regions that were previously plagued by poor internet connectivity.
LRA offices around the country will have better internet access thanks to the launch of Starlink, a state-of-the-art satellite internet service provider. The LRA’s strategy plan, which includes using digital technology to improve revenue collection, give rural communities real-time access to performance data, and strengthen accountability, transparency, and reporting procedures, depends heavily on this effort.
James Dorbor Jallah, the commissioner general of the LRA, has sent his sincere appreciation to the World Bank and all of its partners for their outstanding assistance in realizing this ambition. The Liberia Integrated Tax Administration System (LITAS) and Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) will be implemented at all of our tax business offices and customs stations nationwide thanks in large part to this project. This Starlink installation is a crucial step in taking the brave and deliberate actions necessary to meet our yearly income target of billions.
“Bringing our annual revenue envelope to the billion requires specific, deliberate actions, and this is just one of them,” he continued.
The LRA has been given a fantastic chance to further digitize revenue collection throughout the country with the issuance of Starlink/SpaceX a one-year provisional license to operate in Liberia.
As the LRA sets off on this unstoppable path towards digital technology, it will have the opportunity to streamline revenue collection procedures, plug leaks, and eventually increase domestic revenue collection to billions of dollars.
