Monrovia, Liberia- A two -man delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is set to pay a 3-day visit to Liberia from 20th – 22nd January on a technical working visit for the preparation of Liberia’s Compact.
The technical working visit will focus on steps in staff recruitment, diagnosis study on modalities of the compact, and the establishment of a Millennium Challenge Corporation office in Liberia
MCC Managing Director for Africa, Jason Small, will head the delegation and will be accompanied by MCC Program Officer for Africa, Ilana Shapiro.
According to a release, the MCC team will on January 20, 2025 pay a courtesy call on Liberia’s Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan.
During this visit, discussions will focus on the preparation of Liberia’s Compact, the process of recruiting staffers including the National Coordinator, and the establishment of a Millennium Challenge office in Liberia
It can be recalled that the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s (MCC) Board of Directors selected Liberia as a newly eligible candidate to develop a compact during its quarterly meeting on December 18, 2024.
Liberia was selected in recognition of the progress the country has made to strengthen its performance on the MCC scorecard and the country’s commitment to pursuing critical economic and democratic governance reforms.
The Board also discussed the new opportunities that the Millennium Challenge Corporation Candidate Country Reform Act provides for MCC.
