Monrovia, Liberia – A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by the Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA) with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) with the objective of improving the skills of 221 MFDP employees.

175 employees will receive customer service training from this relationship, while 46 drivers will receive safety instruction.

Deputy Finance Minister for Administration Bill McGill Jones highlighted the initiative’s alignment with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s vision of using the country system to empower Liberians to take ownership of their development and drive positive change within the country, speaking on behalf of Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan.

“This ceremony highlights the importance of on-the-job training for staff, which has a greater impact on the ever-changing work environment.”

Citing Section 43 of the Government of Liberia Human Resources Manual, Hon. Jones noted the obligation of Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions (MACs) to provide necessary training for their employees.

In cooperation with LIPA, he urged every agency to appoint a representative to supervise the execution of training initiatives.

Hon. Jones emphasized that the training provides a chance for staff to acquire important information and skills that would improve their effectiveness in carrying out government procedures and goals, not just a regular duty.

“This opportunity is intended to equip our employees with relevant tools and techniques on the job to increase productivity and performance.”

The Deputy Minister restated the government’s pledge to develop specialized skills in its workforce by investing in workers across different MACs. He conveyed his appreciation to LIPA for helping to close the training gap. Hon. Jones advised staff members to see the training as essential getting ready for the next challenges.

“To our employees, please see this opportunity as a way of preparing you for the next biggest task ahead.”

Hon. Nee-A-lah Varpilah, the Director General of the Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA), expressed his organization’s commitment to completing all of the tasks specified in the contract.

He expressed his excitement that the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning recognizes the importance of enhancing capacity across the government in order to achieve its goals, starting with training of personnel at the lower levels of the civil service.

In carrying out the agreement of understanding between the two government agencies, Hon. Varpilah underlined that LIPA will be a reliable partner.
