Monrovia, Liberia – The Wea-Taylor administration’s payroll has come under fire from the ministry of finance and development, which describes it as rotten. Following the new Boakai administration’s incursions of flooding and phony names on the government payroll, Mr. Anthony G. Myers, Acting Minister of Finance and Development Planning for the Unity Party, has provided an explanation.

“The Payroll is not only bloated, but it is rotten.”

The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning’s Deputy Minister for Fiscal Affairs claimed that in order to improve the nation’s spending, the Liberian government’s payroll is excessively extravagant and needs cleaning. The minister made the remarks at a press briefing held by the Ministry of Information, Cultura, Arts, and Tourism (MiCAT) in Monrovia.

The CDC government had inappropriately followed the IMF’s instructions, the deputy minister of finance pointed out, by implementing the Harmonization strategy during its time. He went on, saying that the CDC’s massive hiring, which affected the Weah-Taylor government’s payroll, was the underlying concern raised by the IMF.

Deputy Minister Myres said the Harmonization policy was only done to accommodate those people who were added to the payroll. He further that the payroll is a call to action for the Unity Party administration. Despite the increase in the 2024 fiscal year proposed budget, the deputy finance called for a cleaning of the current government payroll for the smooth running of the Boakai-Koung adminstration.

The aforementioned challenge is not new to this administration. According to reports, the government payroll was allegedly harmed by the old Unity Party under Ellen-Boakai’s leadership in 2017 before George Weah CDC took over. At the conclusion of its term, the Unity Party is said to have begged or added additional Liberians to the new government payroll.
