The Bacille Calmette-Guérin or BCG Vaccine is in short supply in the country, according to the Ministry of Health. The declaration from the Ministry comes as a result of newborn mothers being turned away from hospitals and clinics owing to scarcity.
In areas where tuberculosis is endemic, newborns are frequently given the BCG vaccine to protect them against catching the disease and to strengthen their immune systems.
One mother told Reports231 that she has visited four health facilities but her child has not received the vaccine since February. According to experts, the shortfall could make newborn newborns vulnerable to Tuberculosis infection.
However, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health told this news organization that the ministry is working to get the drug into the country as soon as possible, while indirectly attributing the scarcity to increased demand.
