The Ministry of Health has declared measles outbreak in Liberia following an increase in the reported number of cases in the country.
The declaration comes barely weeks after the ministry reported that there were cases of measles in the country.
Addressing the Ministry of Information press briefing on Thursday, April 28, 2022, health minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah said the decision was triggered following a usual increase in measles cases.
Dr. Jallah named Montserrado, Nimba, Margibi, and Bassa as counties so far reporting measles cases in Liberia with approximately 1954 cases.
According to her due to the increased number of measles cases in the Country citizens must keep and prevent them and their children from sitting in crowded areas.
The Liberia Health Ministry said despite the outbreak measures have been put in place by health authorities aim at finding ways to combat the disease.
Meanwhile commenting on Covid-19 Dr. Jallah said the country has not reported any case of coronavirus for the past fourteen days while stressing despite the reduction in the number of coronavirus cases citizens must redouble efforts in observance of the preventive measures including washing of hands, social distancing, and wearing of mask amongst others.
