Monrovia, Liberia – LEGISPOOL New President, Gerald Koinyeneh, has issued an urgent call to all Press Union of Liberia auxiliary. In his annugural speech, Mr. Koinyeneh urged the auxiliary groups to convene and address the ongoing union conflict, as part of the formal inauguration of the newly elected leadership of the Legislative Press Pool.
A new corps of executives to lead the organization for the next two years was unanimously elected by members of LEGISPOOL, an organization that represents all professional journalists covering the Liberian Legislature, during their elective congress on August 25, 2023, during the 54th Legislature.
President Koinyeneh of LEGISPOOL urged the heads of auxiliaries to start talks targeted at resolving the protracted leadership problem within the Press Union of Liberia, the mother body of all media organizations in the nation. He called on the Reporters Association of Liberia, Executive Mansion Press Corps., Sports Writers Association of Liberia, Judiciary Reporters Association, and others to join in the fight to save the union.
The new president also frowned at politicians who did not attend the program; according to him, the absence of a political figure at the program sends a signal that journalists should support their own instead of promoting politicians.
The newly elected officials, which comprised President Gerald Koinyeneh, Vice President Jackson Clay, Secretary General Blamo Toe, and Assistant Secretary General Bill Cooper, were sworn in at the Joint Chamber of the Legislature on Friday, March 8, 2024.
