Monrovia, Liberia – Grand Bassa County players were ordered by their technical bench to leave the field, bringing an early end to the 2023/2024 National County Sports Meet third place final on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at SKD.
Nimba was given a penalty during the 60 minutes, which prompted their action. The Technical bench claimed that the penalty awarded to Nimba by Center Referee Moses Forkpah was unfair as they requested their players to leave the pitch immediately.
Football supporters at the stadium departed with anger, even though Bassa was still leading 1-0 with Theo Nyumah’s first-half goal, which was finished by Augustine Dayougar. However, the players followed their boss’s orders and walked off the patch, giving the referee and technical team to declare Nimba county winner of the match.
Following their decision, the Ministry of Youth and Sports immediately awarded the 3rd place Championship to Nimba County worth 500, 000 LRD as reward. Following their 4-2 home run victory over Bomi County, the Lofa County kickball team was also named the third-place champion.
