Visits Bo Waterside.

Monrovia, Liberia – Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) and Chair of the Incident Management System (IMS) for the Mpox Virus, led a high-level delegation to the Bo Waterside Border Crossing Point.

Given the recent spike in Mpox cases, the visit’s objectives were to evaluate ongoing public health initiatives and bolster border surveillance. Members of the combined security forces and Port Health personnel from Sierra Leone and Liberia participated in joint talks with the group during the visit to identify ways to improve cross-border cooperation and surveillance.

On behalf of Health Minister Dr. Louise Kpoto, Dr. Nyan praised the Port Health staff and the joint security officers for their steadfast devotion and commitment. He underlined how important it is to strengthen infection prevention and control (IPC) strategies in order to stop the virus from spreading.

In support of this endeavor, Dr. Nyan provided the Sierra Leonean Port Health team with a variety of IPC and Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) tools.

Among the senior authorities in the visiting delegation were the Deputy Director General for Technical Services at NPHIL, the Director of Health Promotion at the Ministry of Health, the County Health Officer of Grand Cape Mount, the County Surveillance Officer, and others.
