Calls For Participation In Liberia’s Development
Monrovia, Liberia – As the 2024 Diaspora Annual Return comes to an end, President Joseph N. Boakai has bid final farewell to Liberians who left their respective countries early December to participate in the diaspora annual meeting in Liberia. Speaking Friday, January 3, 2025 at the farewell program of Diasporans at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia, Boakai said, “As I bid you farewell, I urge you to embrace boldness in participating in Liberia’s development.”
According to him, the time has come for Liberians living outside to think differently, to think boldly, and to actively engage in the rebuilding of the country. The Liberian leader urged them to actively participate in the nation’s reconstruction by offering their knowledge and allocating funds that would further Liberia’s progress, noting that their skills are required to help change the country’s future.
“We require your knowledge, financial commitments, assets, and creative ideas. We need the skills you have acquired from your experiences in the diaspora to help change Liberia’s future,” Boakai explained.
President Boakai clarified that his administration is prepared to offer the facilities and security needed to encourage investment, contribute, and turn Liberia into a place where everyone can succeed. Liberia is safe and open for business, he said, adding that his government has put in much effort to establish a climate of safety, stability, and peace.
President Boakai confirmed that his government is still dedicated to maintaining the rule of law and creating a trusting environment, and that investments and donations intended to advance Liberia would be safeguarded.
Diaspora Liberians were praised by the Liberian leader for their contributions to the country’s progress. According to President Boakai, his government will host the first-ever Liberian Diaspora Conference in April of this year in Washington, D.C. The conference will provide a forum for vital dialogue on Liberia’s future.
Erasmus Williams, the Director of the Ministry of State’s Diaspora Office, stated that the goal of the diaspora engagement is to deliver services to Liberia via the appropriate authorities. In addition to their operations, Director Williams said, the Diaspora office would use the different institutions to deliver direct services to Liberian homes.
He explained that the main goals of the diaspora engagement are to improve the competence of government institutions and to fortify Liberia’s ties with other foreign allies.
