Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph N. Boakai on Friday toured and initiated the construction of a US$150 million recreational park in Marshall City, lower Margibi County. It is anticipated that the proposed park would be located near Marshall City, at the confluence of the Farmington River and the Atlantic Ocean.
Speaking to media while on the tour, Joe Jane Mulbah, the President’s Advisor on National Infrastructure said, President Boakai’s compassion for Liberia’s people and children is demonstrated by the 150 million dollar project.
According to him, the park would be called “Kalawanda” a derivative of the Kissi dialect, when interpreted means “Love for the people.” According to him, the project is the President’s way of giving every Liberian kid the chance to experience things that the majority of them did not have when they were growing up.
“There is going to be a swing, park, merry-go-round and a lot of things for children just like desny-world in the USA.”
Mulbah added that Liberia’s tourism industry will benefit greatly from the park, which will cover seventy (70) acres and include a conference center, villas, hotels, and a boat harbor.
“With hotels, villas, and convention centers, it will be a full-flower park that is jetted into the sea. This will be a chance to expand the nation’s tourist industry.”
The project will be officially open in December 2025, he continued, that children will be able to visit it for the Christmas celebration in December 2024.
“By December, phase one of the project will be ready for the president to have a party with the children, and in December of 2025 will be the grand international opening of the project.”
According to him, the project is a presidential initiative supported by the president’s friends who live abroad and not a government initiative.
