Monrovia, Liberia – The United States of America’s government and people have received a congratulatory message from President George Manneh Weah on the occasion of the nation’s 247th anniversary of independence. The Liberian President attended the program marking the celebration at the Executive Pavilion on Ashmun Street in Monrovia on Thursday, June 29, 2023, along with representatives of the US Embassy close to Monrovia and other dignitaries from around the world, to commemorate the United States advanced Independence Day.

President Weah reflected in a special statement on the historically arduous path that Liberia and the United States had traveled for more than a century in search of political, economic, and international peace. President Weah recalled the progress that Liberia and the US have made by standing shoulder to shoulder in good times and bad, by holding similar views on political ideology, liberal democracy, open capitalist economic systems, human rights, and the exercise and protection of their citizens’ and peoples’ unalienable rights.

The Liberia Leader emphasized that in order to protect Liberia from those who wish to defend what is wrong for Liberia, the two nations will continue to be aggressive for what is right for Liberia. Some of Liberia’s forefathers and mothers, according to Mr. Weah, were born in the United States. In search of Liberty, Justice, and Equality, they traveled to Liberia. Liberians were not left alone in their fight to protect their independence and sovereignty, he claimed, even though their country had never been an American colony.

“Liberia is a natural and mutual ally of the United States.”

President also stated that Liberia is appreciative of the US position and equally proud of the alliance. President Weah expressed his pleasure in celebrating the 247th anniversary of the United States’ independence alongside US Ambassador Michael McCarthy and millions of other Americans around the globe.

President Weah on behalf of the government and people of Liberia, sent President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., and People of the United States, his heartfelt greetings.

Meanwhile, the outgoing US Ambassador to Liberia Michael McCarthy has praised Liberia for how far they have with the 20 years of uninterrupted peace. As the country prepares to have a new leader of the U.S. Delegation, Michael McCarthy has revealed that his Presidential appointment to Liberia would end in two weeks.

He recognized President Weah’s administration for Liberia’s principal and unwavering stand against the unprovoked attack by Russia on Ukraine and Liberia’s position in defense of the Muslim minority in one of the world’s most populous nations. “As exemplary global citizens, I urge you to continue to support the freedom of the oppressed against this sort of unbridled aggression”

The U.S. Ambassador recognized the Weah lead government in working with the legislature to strengthen the freedom of the press.
