Monrovia, Liberia – On Monday, January 15, 2024, George Weah, the outgoing president of Liberia, dedicated the recently built headquarters of the Liberia Refugee Reparation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) in Tarr Town, Old Road Community.
Speaking at the program, the Liberian Leader expressed gratitude to the United Nations High Commission for Refregee for contributing over thirty four thousand United States dollars (USD$ 34,000) toward the construction of the facility.
Mr. Weab added that it is laudable for government entities to own their facilities instead of renting private spaces for government offices across the country. He continued that the facility’s creation serves as a reminder to all Liberians to foster unity for the benefit of the country.
The dedication comes barely seven days after the official turning over of power from the Coalition for Democratic Change government to the Unity Party Administration headed by former Liberia Vice President and now President-elect Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Liberia, Christine N. Umutoni, for her part, commended the government of Liberia for its hospitality to refugees and recognised the commonality of the Liberian people in sharing little resources with those seeking safety in the nation.
