President George Manneh Weah has expressed his profound sorrow at Yoram Cohen’s passing, adding that Cohen was a longtime friend of Liberia and made a significant contribution to the development of the nation’s maritime industry. Following its decline during the civil war, the Liberian Flag Registry under Cohen’s guidance experienced a phenomenal rise to become the best, fastest growing, and second largest in the world.

He was also one of the pioneers behind the revitalization of the Liberia Maritime Training Institute and a firm believer in the ability of Liberian students to contribute to the shaping of the nation’s future. In addition, Yoram Cohen founded Cellcom Telecommunications Company, now known as Orange, which contributed to the de-monopolization of the mobile telephony industry.

The President remembers the guidance he got from the LISCR founder while he was playing soccer with affection.
