Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has proclaimed Friday, April 11, 2025, as “National Fast and Prayer Day,” which will be honored as a national holiday. A statement from the Foreign Ministry states that the day is designated as a day of prayer, fasting, meditation, and petition in order to crown collective efforts as individuals with significant accomplishments for the common cause of the state and all of humanity.

The Proclamation is in accordance with the National Legislature’s Act, which was enacted into law in 1883 and designates the second Friday in April as a National Fast and Prayer Day. This day is observed for the nation’s prosperity and as a humble request to Almighty God for guidance, protection, and peace in their national life.

The Proclamation recalled the times when the nation experienced man-made national crises and unusual outbreaks of national phenomena that, by God’s grace, averted the nation from causing great harm, destruction, and devastation globally.

“There are still large numbers of our Kith and kin living in uncertain conditions in the Diaspora, and the need for remembrance in prayers of those who have made the supreme sacrifice remains unfulfilled”.

Within the borders of the Republic of Liberia, the Proclamation also calls on all prelates, priests, elders, deacons, evangelists, imams, and citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs, to come together in their places of worship in every city, town, village, hamlet, and residence.

In additional acknowledgment of God’s love and guidance, the Proclamation further mandates that all official offices, commercial establishments, and marketplaces remain closed for the observance. Additionally, all citizens and foreign residents will abstain from their regular daily activities and pursuits.
