Monrovia, Liberia – Thursday, November has been proclaimed National Thanksgiving Day by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., and will be honored as a national holiday across the Republic of Liberia.

All Liberians and foreign residents, priests, imams, bishops, pastors, and religious groups are urged by the proclamation to assemble in their respective houses of worship and give thanks to the Almighty God in order for continue togetherness and keep us safe as a people and a country.

A statement from the Foreign Ministry states that the proclamation is in accordance with an Act of the National Legislature of the Republic of Liberia, which was passed in 1883 and established Thanksgiving Day as the first Thursday of November every year.

According to the Presidential Proclamation, it is appropriate that a day be designated for the nation and its citizens to honor and thank the Lord for his providence, kindness, and mercy as well as for saving lives.

The proclamation added that the people of Liberia have always expressed gratitude and praise to the Almighty God for his many blessings and tender mercies, particularly for his unwavering protection during times of peace, disaster, and other phenomena over the years.
