DONATES TEN MILLION LIBERIAN DOLLARS AND 200 BAGS OF (25 kg) RICE TO VICTIMS AND FAMILIES
Bong County – Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Liberia’s President-elect, has donated ten million Liberian dollars (10,000,000) and two hundred bags of (25 kg) rice as a way of showing solidarity to the victims of the tragic petroleum tanker explosion in Bong County.
The President-elect paid a visit to the scene of the tragic petroleum tanker explosion in Totota, Lower Bong County, on Sunday, December 31, 2023, which claimed the lives of over sixty Liberians. On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, a truck carrying more than 9,000 litres of gasoline was heading into Nimba County when the unfortunate occurrence happened.
The unfortunate scenario was acknowledged by President-elect Boakai, who also comprehends the deep effects it has on the impacted families and the nation as a whole. During his visit, he sent his condolences to the relatives of the deceased and offered prayers and support for the healing of other victims receiving care at various hospitals around the nation.
President-elect Boakai attended a church service near the tragic location during his visit. Amb. Boakai also paid a visit to the location of the mass burial, spoke with local officials, first responders, and civic leaders, and offered condolences to the families who had lost loved ones.
“We are here today to console you; we are here today to tell you that we feel just as hurt as you are; we will stand with you because this is a family affair.”
He underlined how crucial it is for citizens to have a foundational education in order to be safe, self-aware, and prepared for emergencies.
In addition, he encouraged state security to carry out an exhaustive inquiry into what caused the catastrophe and provide pertinent advice on how to avoid it in the future.
The visit demonstrates President-elect Boakai’s commitment to promoting national healing and togetherness amid trying times.
