Paynesville – Liberia president, George Manneh Weah has dedicated a new electronic scoreboard. President George Weah on Saturday, April 15, 2023, dedicated an electronic basketball scored board worth around eight thousand United States dollars at the SKD Gymnasium in Paynesville.

The score board was donated by Great Baller, a US based organization comprised of former Liberian basketball and football players with Youth and Sports Minister Zeogar Wilson being one of the members.

At a brief ceremony, President Weah appreciated Great Baller for the gesture. The Liberian president declared that as a fan of both basketball and football, he was honored to dedicate the state-of-the-art scoreboard that former US-based players donated.

“I am sure with the digital scoreboard; transparency will be at its utmost level and will not permit anything ugly to occur while recording the scores.”

Abraham Samukai, the president of the Liberia Basketball Association, made a plea to President Weah to step in and address the current leadership concerns at the federation while speaking at the event.
Since they took over from former LBA President Rufus Anderson a few years ago, he claimed, there has been an internal and external conflict that has hampered the normal operation of the federation.

He acknowledged that although the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Liberia Olympic Committee have recognized their leadership, the Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) has not done so since their elections. Samukai said FIBA actions have denied many young people opportunities to play on the international scene, he appealed with the Liberian Leader to help resolve the conflict.

”Mr. President, despite our best efforts, it appears that nothing is being done to resolve this issue on our own, thus it is time for you to please step in. I also want to use this opportunity to thank the Great Baller for his outstanding donation to Liberia, which is crucial to our game.”
