SAYS PROFESSIONAL WORK LEAD TO PEACEFUL ELECTIONS IN OCTOBER 2023

Sinkor, Monrovia – The smooth running of the October 10, 2023, elections has been credited by President George Weah to the media’s competent coverage of the poll. He conveyed his appreciation to all media institutions for their crucial contribution in exposing falsehoods and misinformation that made the peaceful process possible.

It has been observed that during election seasons, bloggers, media outlets, and other information-sharing platforms, including citizens Journalism and fake news, take over the nation. However, at the general elections on October 10, 2023, the professional media institution was able to employ their professional abilities, such as fact-checking, to refute falsehoods and fake news.

President Weah, who is credited with keeping tabs on significant developments and news in Liberia, stated that despite the prevalence of false information surrounding the October 10, 2023, elections, the media in Liberia was able to utilise its influence to maintain calm throughout the voting process.

It is is worth noting that the 2023 electoral process was a very tense one with the absence of international security. During the election process, all difficult situations were brought under control by the competent and cordial efforts of the Joint Security of Liberia. Prior to the general elections on October 10, 2023, there were several political confrontations, one of which resulted in a death in Lofa County.

Mr. Weah praised the local media for their excellent work and urged them to contribute more to the prosperity of the nation. At the same time, he urged people to vote peacefully in the second round of the 2023 presidential election.The Liberian leader spoke during the 78th United Nations Day Celebration in Monrovia on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, under the theme: “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Solidarity: Accelerating Action on 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
