Following the death of the former interim president, Amos C. Sawyer, President George Weah on Tuesday led an array of government officials at the Centennial Memorial Pavilion in Monrovia to sign the book of condolences for the former statesman.
It can be recalled Dr. Sawyer died on February 16, 2022, following a period of illness in the United States of America.
Dr. Sawyer served as Chairperson of the Governance commission that was established following the 2023 comprehensive peace Accord to recommend policies reforming the public and security sector as well as the management of land in the aftermath of the civil war
At the signing ceremony, the Liberian leader recounted his friendly relationship with the Sawyer family over the years since his assignment to the crucial national post.
Meanwhile, President Weah said Dr. Sawyer’s footprints will remain etched in the history of Liberia for generations to come. He at the same time extended his sympathy to the bereaved family, particularly the window of the late statesman Mrs. Thelma E. Duncan Sawyer.
