Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Labor’s Inspector General has requested that Minister Cooper Kruah install checkpoints around the country to reduce illicit inspections. On January 7, 2025, at a general staff meeting at the Ministry of Labor, Inspector Charles Brown described a series of unintentional inspections as a “harassment” to the relevant division.
“The inspection division is responsible for inspection in the ministry of labor, but in 2024, we observed multitude of inspections all over the place, some without any authorization from the minister or the inspection general,” according to him.
In 2024, the inspection division, an important department within the ministry, had a low wage income. The Inspector General of the Ministry of Labor suggested a wage increase in 2025 to address the issue of low salaries, as the inspection division is responsible for income generation.
According to him, increasing employee remuneration will lead to more responsibility and productivity.
Minister Kruah reassured staff that recommendations will be handled as quickly as possible, and that collaboration with colleagues will result in great outcomes.
“Going forward, we will understand that each one of us will have to play a role that will help us to achieve something for the entire ministry,” he told reporters.
Minister Kruah stated that those outside the labor ministry believe that everyone in the ministry is an inspector, but there is a plan to reverse that perception.
“We are part of a rescue effort and want to ensure its success. “He emphasized that success requires everyone to contribute effectively.
Liberia’s Minister of Labor announced plans for training, rehearsal, and refresher courses for ministry personnel. According to him, the Ministry of Labor’s income in 2024 was $9,15,000,758. million.
During the general staff meeting, ministers and directors shared their department/division difficulties in 2024 and recommendations for a better 2025.
