Monrovia, Liberia – The Supreme Court of Liberia has ruled against Mary Karwor, CDC Representative Candidate thereby affirming the ruling of the National Election Commissioners that declared J. Clarence Banks as the winner of District Number 2, Grand Bassa County on October 10, 2023, general elections.

Following the general elections on October 10, 2023, the Independent Candidate J. Clarence Banks of District #2, Grand Bassa County was declared the victor by the NEC. Defeated Grand Bassa District #2 legislator Mary Karwor filed an appeal with the NEC Board of Commissioners after the results were announced.

The Supreme Court held in its decision on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, that an allegation by itself does not prove anything; rather, it remains an allegation until it is substantiated by evidence.

The verdict further said that, according to the law, an election offence must be committed by the candidate or by a third party with the candidate’s knowledge and cooperation in order for the election to be deemed void.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has further ordered the NEC to proceed with the certification of Representative-elect J. Clarence Banks as the winner of the Representative seat for District 2#, Grand Bassa County. The clerk was instructed to send a mandate to the NEC to resume jurisdiction over the matter.
