U.S. Head of Delegation to the Bicentennial Celebration of the Republic of Liberia, Honorable Dana Banks, Special Assistant to the U.S. President Joe Biden, and Senior Director for Africa at the National Security Council said, Liberia has a host of Anti- Corruption Institutions which are independent of the government of Liberia, but the Liberian government is underfunding those institutions.
She noted that so many Liberian Leaders have chosen their short-term gain over the country’s long-term benefit. She alarmed that the expectation sometimes is that the U.S and the rest of the International Community will step in and help to solve Liberia long term problem, but the fact is that the U.S. is a proud and dedicated partner and friend of Liberia but utilmitlly only the Liberian people can tackle corruption, fight for accountability, transparency and move Liberia forward.
Liberians have to work in collaboration with their government to fight corruption, says Hon. Bank.
She acknowledged that Liberia still has work to do, especially in addressing and rutting out corruption, Madam Dana noted that as friends to Liberia, this is why the United States has decided to bring it out, and they are eager to help the situation.
The U.S. Diplomat alarmed that corruption rubs Liberia citizens to health care, public safety, and Education, and rub Liberia of the healthy basics environment a country could have and lift countless Liberians out of poverty.
“It suburb economic opportunity, exacerbate equality and enrollees integrity, it eats away the democracy that you have work so hard to build”, the representative alarmed.
She announced that the U. S will continue its strong and unique partnership for taking on all kinds of challenges, especially climate change and the global COVID-19 pandemic.
