FEEDING SANCTIONED ASPIRANTS IN OCTOBER 10, 2023, ELECTIONS

Monrovia, Liberia – Nomination of people subject to sanctions by political parties has been characterized as a huge letdown by U.S. Ambassador Michael McCarthy. The ambassador from the United States of America is well known for speaking out against undesirable events in the nation, particularly when it doesn’t benefit the Liberian people.

Michael McCarthy, the outgoing ambassador, expressed disappointment that political parties are dismissive of the global Magnitsky penalties during his final press conference on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

McCarthy claimed that the Treasury Department of the United States spends a lot of time and money approving sanctions against specific people. He also notes that the Embassy fully believes and appreciates the legitimacy of the Treasury Department designations.

He added that the report that the embassy approved sanctioned individuals to contest the 2023 elections is not true, not that the U.S is not okay with the situation and find it disappointing that a paeticular party carry on such act.

”THE FACI IS THAT NO LIBERIAN GOVERNMENT ENTITY HAS EVEN FORMALLY TAKEN UP OUR ACCUSSIONS TO INITIATE AN INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE THE VERACITY OF USG ALLIGATIONS. THIS IS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING AND DISCOURAGING. THAT SAID, IF THE VOTERS OF LIBERIA WISH TO ELEVATE TO PUBLIC OFFICE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE BEEN SANCTIONED, THAT IS THEIR PREOGATIVE.”
