Backs Cllr. Jallah Barbu’s Appointment to War and Economic Crimes Court

Monrovia, Liberia – The newly appointed executive director of Liberia’s upcoming War and Economic Crimes Court, Cllr. Jallah Barbu, has received significant backing from the US Embassy in Liberia.

The embassy issued a statement praising the Liberian government, and Justice Minister N. Oswald Tweh in particular, for holding an inclusive selection process for the important position.

“We applaud the Liberian government and specifically Justice Minister N. Oswald Tweh for an inclusive selection process. We stand ready to support Cllr. Barbu and all Liberians as they establish a court to bring justice for the victims of the gravest crimes committed during Liberia’s civil wars.”

The embassy’s support emphasizes how crucial the court is to resolving crimes, fostering accountability, and providing justice to victims of Liberia’s civil wars.

As a step toward enduring peace and justice in Liberia, the U.S. government has long supported the creation of the War and Economic Crimes Court.

Cllr. Barbu is anticipated to be crucial in determining the court’s goals and organizational framework as Liberia continues its court preparations.
