As part of its support towards Liberia’s Road Construction Program through the Liberia Reconstruction Trust Fund (LRTF), UK Ambassador accredited to Monrovia, Neil Bradley has reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s support towards road construction efforts in Liberia.

Ambassador Bradley made the pledge on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, during a Special Bilateral Meeting in Monrovia with the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works.

The Meeting with Public Works Officials including the Infrastructure Implementation Unit ( IIU ) captured progress made on the Southeastern Corridor Road Asset Management Project ( SECRAMP) following the Signing of Three Financing Agreement on June 8, 2021, in the tone of USD$157M, of which USD$21M is a grant from the British and German Governments.

The Project affects the Ganta – Saclepea Road Corridor, as well as Saclepea – Tappitta Corridor, with an additional 40 km stretch to be constructed between Tappitta – Toe’s Town in Grand Gedeh County.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Public Works, Acting Public Works Minister, Ruth Coker-Collins lauded Ambassador Bradley for the visit and stressed that all hands are on deck as the project will mark significant progress in the Road Sector when completed.

For his part, Deputy Public Works Minister for Rural Development Benjamin Bantoe praised the UK Government for their support, adding that capacity building is another component of national development that must also be given serious attention by Donor Partners.

Minister Bantoe who also buttressed Acting Minister Coker-Collins said, when more opportunities are available for training, the Government of Liberia will benefit from the returns that accompany capacity building in a country with a vast, youthful population.

Other attendants at the Meeting included Mr. Emmanuel Baker, Program Manager of the World Bank Funded Infrastructure Implementation Unit at the Ministry of Public Works; Assistant Ministers for Administration, Planning and Program, Rural Development and Community Services, J. Jefferson Chesson, James Reynolds, Jackie Bernard, and Bolton Dennis respectively.
