Condemns the Continuous use of President Boakai’s Portrait.

Monrovia, Liberia – The growing illegal usage of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s face on billboards, coffee mugs, apparel, awards, posters, and other souvenirs has raised grave worries for the ruling Unity Party (UP). These behaviors, which are frequently seen at presidential events or on goods meant for public gift, have been criticized for being in opposition to the UP’s governing ideals.

The Unity Party’s standard bearer and president of Liberia strongly opposes the use of his picture to express gratitude or allegiance for institutional or personal benefits. According to the Party, “we must avoid repeating the traps of sycophantic exaltation that affected past governments under this administration.”

On Friday, January 3, 2025, the Unity Party reaffirms its dedication to a governance philosophy of honesty, modesty, and putting the good of the country before one’s own glory in a statement signed by Lansana Pawenneh Fofana, the National Assistant Secretary General for Press, Publicity & Outreach. The Party urges all people, public servants, and government agencies to abstain from any behavior that would give the impression that the president is autocratic or encourage an excessively laudatory culture.

The UP strongly recommends that the usage of the President’s picture be limited to official state events and projects that have been legally supported by the Government of Liberia in order to maintain civility and professionalism in public service. State visits with foreign dignitaries or other high-level initiatives in line with national goals are examples of such occasions.

The Unity Party calls on everyone participating in the improper use of the President’s picture to stop right away, without naming any particular person or organization. The Party cautions that if such acts are repeated in public, it will not think twice before denouncing specific people or organizations.

The Unity Party urges all Partisans, Alliance Party members, and the general public to continue to support President Boakai’s developmental program as Liberia nears the end of his first year in office. The Unity Party noted that it is still dedicated to making sure Liberia continues on its path to greatness, and the country is making irrevocable progress.
