AS LIBERIANS VOTE NEW PRESIDENT

Monrovia, Liberia – The opposition Unity Party, led by Joseph N. Boakai, has continued to lead in the 2023 presidential run-off. Boakai, who leads the Unity Party, lost to CDC George M. Weah in the 2017 presidential election. As the National Election Commission (NEC) announced the run-off first results on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, the UP candidate led his opposition by over five thousand votes.

Boakai, the candidate from the Unity Party, maintained his lead in the 2023 presidential run-off, according to the NEC’s second announcement on Thursday, November 16, 2023. The NEC reports that UP Boakai is still in the lead with 712,741 votes, or 50.58%, followed by CDC Weah with 696,520 votes, or 49.42%. This proves that the NEC has tallied a total of 86.71% of the total votes.

As per the most recent NEC report, UP Boakai secured 16,221 votes, putting her ahead of CDC Weah. According to the election house, the Unity Party has won the counties of Margibi, Bomi, and Lofa, while the CDC has so far secured the majority of the votes in Bong County.
