DEEMED CDCIANs A SERIOUS THREATH AND WILL BE DEALTH AS REBEL GROUP
Monrovia, Liberia – The spokesperson for the opposition Unity Party’s 2023 national campaign, Mohammed Ali, told the public on Friday, August 11, 2023, at a news conference in Monrovia that the party had a responsibility to defend all of its members, supporters, sympathizers, and Liberians against any acts of violence from the supporters of the government’s Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
According to Mohamed Ali, the Coalition for Democratic Change, the country’s ruling elite, brutally attacked members of the Unity Party and its standard bearer, Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai, on Thursday, August 10, 2023, in front of the population of Liberia and the world. According to him, the CDC’s conduct gave the party no choice but to offer every member of the party the greatest possible protection.
Mr. Ali claims that the CDC’s move caused the UP’s planned program, which was to be held in the UP-Campaign Center in Sinkor, canceled. ”Let there be discussion during this campaign, not name-calling, and let it be based on evaluation of the candidates rather than intimidation of the opposition.”
Ali alleged that supporters of the CDC stopped and forcibly threw stones at the Unity Party’s presidential and vice-presidential convoys while scaring Unity Party supporters with taunts and physical assaults.
He continued that the followers of the ruling establishment were acting with a flagrant disregard for our international agreements, electoral laws, and the constitution.
”We think that such terrible and awkward political behavior has a tendency to push our developing democracy into a place where Liberians revert to their dark past; a period when peace will be abandoned and the struggle to impose decency in our politics would be at its height. We are all obligated to preserve the tranquility of this country, but the CDC-led administration has the constitutional right to guarantee security and peace for every Liberian, including the Unity Party, which is poised to democratically replace President Weah.”
The 2023 UP Campaign Spokesperson calls on the international community to closely observe the election and campaign activities taking place throughout the country while also warning the country that the Spector General of the Liberia National Police cannot be trusted in these elections.
”We urge the National Elections Commission (NEC) to be extremely transparent in the performance of her duties, emphasizing that Liberians are closely observing your efforts and won’t fall for any false information coming from the NEC.”
