PREACHES DIVISIVE POLITICS

Gbarnga City, Bong County – What appears to be tribal politics is gradually creeping into Liberia’s democracy as the Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Jewel Howard Taylor, cautioned citizens and residents of Bong County to emulate the voting styles of the South-Easteners.

Addressing journalists on Sunday, October 22, 2023, in Gbarnga City, Bong County, VP Taylor said, “The South Easterners realize that if President George Weah stays as their president, he will give his people whatever plans, development, and programs he had planned for them, despite the negative propaganda that went into the process.” I ask Bong County to support their own in the runoff by casting a ballot in my favor.

”We waited 170 years to produce a vice president, and you folks have to keep that in mind. Any son or daughter of this county could be seated in this seat, which I occupy. Here, I’m pleading with Bong County to vote your own. We might be looking at a lot of things, but I think the messages from Nimba have been clarified. What is the message there? Vote for your own, and I hope Bong County does the same, in order to keep the vice president in office and provide the county with a wealth of chances.”

VP Taylor promised to go through the Seven electoral Districts in the county when the NEC announce the first round final result and declared the campaign open for the Runoff election. “I will be coming back to the county to make an appeal that we should look at the benefits come to the county by hosting the office of the vice president.”

The vice president of Liberia declared that the Bong and Nimba county residents are the focus of the runoff election, and he thus urged the Bong citizens to cast a resounding majority of ballots in favour of the CDC. The vice president of the Coalition for Democratic Change did not, however, adequately list some of the county’s greatest accomplishments since rising to the position of vice president.

VP Taylor served the people of Bong County as senator for nearly 18 years before Montserrado County Former Senator and Standard Bearer of the CDC George Weah picked her as his running mate in 2017. To present, the people of Bong County have yet to benefit from any developmental initiatives from the Vice President in the county. The VP claimed she has done enouch for the county, of which the people of Bong supports her. It can be recalled that over fourthy-four thousand citizens of Bong county did not participate in the October 10, 2023, Presidential and Legislative elections.
