LBS Workers Accuse Director General Fahngon.

Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) employees have expressed grave worries about Director General Eugene L. Fahngon’s autocratic and dysfunctional leadership. They called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and the Liberian people to act immediately after listing a number of alleged abuses and subpar administrative procedures that occurred during his term at a news conference held in Monrovia.

On behalf of the employees, the union leadership charged Fahngon of creating a hostile workplace that was marked by verbal abuse, harassment, and intimidation. The arbitrary suspension of employee benefits, unlawful terminations, and threats of termination directed at employees who disagreed with his views were among the many instances of labor rights abuses they mentioned.

The claims made by the LBS Workers Union have not received a response from Fahngon. The workers outlined a number of complaints against the Fahngon administration, one of which was the suspension of benefits. They  accused the director of arbitrarily stopping benefits listed in the LBS HR Manual, depriving workers of necessary assistance.

Workers said that a poisonous work environment was caused by Fahngon’s autocratic demeanor and lack of empathy. They cited Peter Clinton’s termination from the Operations Department as unlawful and unfair. The LBS Workers Union’s operations, including the operation of the workers’ canteen, are allegedly being meddled in by Fahngon.

They claim that the Director General uses antiquated decrees to stifle free expression and selectively enforces the law. The Workers alleged that Fahngon has broken agreements by canceling year-end incentives without offering an explanation and failing to provide health insurance, among other things. Citing “flimsy excuses” relating to development on the LBS premises, the workers also chastised Fahngon for calling off the yearly Christmas party for the children of the staff.

The Workers were disappointed that Fahngon had not fulfilled his pledges when he took office, and they conveyed this discontent through its leaders, Kolubah Zayzay and Joseph Sayon, who served as secretary and president, respectively. His first words, “LBS will never be the same,” which they now see as an indication of reversal rather than advancement, were recited.

In a forceful declaration, the workers threatened to vote Fahngon out of office if he did not resolve their complaints within 72 hours. The reinstatement of Peter Clinton, the restoration of all suspended benefits as per the HR Manual, an immediate halt of employee harassment and intimidation, the prohibition of meddling in Workers Union matters, including the management of the canteen, the cessation of threats and targeting of employees because they disagree with management policies, and a dedication to creating a free and peaceful workplace are among their demands.
