-Names $ 53.m public structure after Ellen J. Sirleaf 

President  George Weah has renamed the Ministerial  Complex after his predecessor Ellen  Johnson  Sirleaf in commemoration of her contributions while she served as the first female head of State in Africa, and took over the state affairs after 14 years of brutal civil war.

Presenting his special speech at the International Women’s Day in Monrovia on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, the Liberian President declared the Ministerial Complex as Ellen  Johnson Sirleaf  Ministerial Complex. 

He said Madam  Johnson contributed immensely to rebuilding the nation, restoring democracy, and building a peaceful society which every Citizen continues to enjoy at the moment.

According to him,  Ellen Johnson Sirleaf played a significant role which no one can question, not even him as opposition by then as he respected her and served as peace Ambassador in her administration. 


“Madam Ellen has done so much to restore peace and showcase as a first Female President in  Africa. As we celebrate today as International Women’s Day, I want to announce to you that this entire structure is some of the good projects she offered to the Nation ”, President Weah asserted.

However, he vowed to continue respecting his predecessor ” Ellen Johnson  Sirleaf” until her good God can call her to rest. 

The Ministerial  Complex is the largest Chinese government project for Liberia and the second-largest building constructed by China in Africa after the African Union (AU) Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia approximately worth  $53.M  United Dollars. 

Meanwhile,  the Liberia President promises to have 50% women inclusion in his administration instead of the 30% they are demanding.

While the Global Theme of International Women’s Day was “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”
Liberia celebrated under the Theme: Liberian Women in History:  Breaking Barriers & Setting the Stage for Gender Equality.

At the same time, Mr. Weah promised to have Women seated at a table so they can continue to make their invaluable contributions to the growth and development of Liberia.
